NIRJULI/TUTING : World Environment Day 2026 was observed during the ongoing Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC)-37 at NERIST, Nirjuli, through a joint initiative of 1 Arunachal Pradesh Battalion NCC, Naharlagun and the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) Arunachal Pradesh Regional Centre (APRC), Itanagar.
A total of 340 NCC cadets participated in the programme, which featured a series of activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and conservation.
These included expert lectures on biodiversity and wildlife conservation, an environmental quiz, speech competition, awareness rally, Mission LiFE pledge, environmental protection pledge, the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” plantation drive, and prize and certificate distribution.
The programme was conducted by a ZSI team led by Arunachal Pradesh Regional Centre Scientist-C Dr Shantabala Devi Gurumayum and Scientist-B Dr Vikram Delu, who delivered informative sessions on biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability.
The event was organised under the leadership of 1 Arunachal Pradesh Battalion NCC Commanding Officer Colonel Samudra Vijay Sharma and supervised by 1 Arunachal Pradesh Battalion NCC ADM Officer Lieutenant Colonel Surjit Rai and KV-2 Itanagar Associate NCC Officer Priya, along with other Associate NCC Officers.
The celebration successfully strengthened environmental awareness among the cadets and encouraged them to adopt sustainable practices and play an active role in environmental conservation and community participation.
Meanwhile, World Environment Day was celebrated at Government Primary School, Pekong Block, Tuting, in Upper Siang district with a poster-making competition organised by Spearhead Gunners under the theme “Our Planet, Our Strength.”
A total of 15 students participated in the competition, expressing their views on environmental conservation, sustainable living and the protection of Planet Earth through colourful and creative artworks.
The event also featured an interactive awareness session during which students discussed environmental challenges, ways to protect nature and simple practices that can contribute to a cleaner and greener future. The participants actively shared their ideas and demonstrated a keen understanding of environmental responsibility.
Organisers said the competition provided a platform for children to creatively express their thoughts while reinforcing the message that environmental protection is a collective responsibility. The activity was both educational and engaging, generating enthusiastic participation from the students.
The initiative reflected the continued commitment of Spearhead Gunners towards community outreach, environmental awareness and nurturing responsible future citizens through meaningful educational programmes. (DIPR)
