CHONGKHAM : As part of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Outreach Programme marking 12 years of Seva, Pragati, Vikas aur Jan Kalyan under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein undertook an extensive tour of the 46-Chongkham (ST) Assembly constituency on Saturday to review developmental initiatives and interact with various sections of society.
During the visit, Mein met Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awardee Saratham Namchoom and lauded his contribution to the preservation and promotion of the Tai Khamti community’s cultural heritage. He underscored the need to safeguard indigenous traditions for future generations.
Mein also held discussions with members of the Tai Khamti Heritage and Literature Society, led by General Secretary Kalingna Mannoi. The deliberations focused on manuscript transcription, digitisation, preservation and translation, along with efforts to document traditional knowledge systems. Opportunities under the Gyan Bharatam Mission for preserving India’s knowledge heritage were also discussed.
Reviewing development works in the constituency, Mein inspected the ongoing construction of the football stadium at Chongkham and assessed its progress. He also visited Government Higher Secondary School, Chongkham, where he interacted with teachers and staff on academic activities, educational development and institutional requirements.
Mein visited Chongkham Heritage Homestay, a venture established under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Swavalamban Yojana, and reviewed its role in promoting tourism, entrepreneurship and livelihood generation.
He also interacted with senior citizens, gaon burahs, women’s groups, self-help groups and beneficiaries of government schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and UJALA Yojana, to assess the impact of welfare initiatives at the grassroots level.
At Nang Hok Saao, Chongkham, the Deputy Chief Minister visited a weaving centre run by a women-led self-help group. He appreciated the members for preserving traditional weaving practices while generating sustainable livelihood opportunities and strengthening women-led entrepreneurship.
The outreach programme was attended by BJP Namsai district president Ningroo Ong Maio, district in-charge Kohman Lungphi Ngemu, Chongkham ZPM Mulaseng Namchoom, besides community leaders, public representatives and local residents.
The tour reflected the objectives of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Outreach Programme by fostering direct engagement with citizens, reviewing developmental progress and reinforcing the vision of an inclusive and developed India.
