ITANAGAR : The Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) West Siang district unit has strongly condemned the alleged murder of a 25-year-old woman by her former husband in Aalo and called for a fair, impartial and expeditious investigation into the case.
According to police, the accused, identified as 45-year-old Todak Ngomdir, allegedly killed the woman on Monday before surrendering the following day. He is currently in police custody. The couple had reportedly separated about a month ago.
Expressing deep shock and grief over the incident, the APWWS West Siang unit said no individual has the right to take another person’s life under any circumstances and asserted that violence can never be justified. It urged society to unite against all forms of violence against women.
The organisation extended its condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased. It also appealed to the investigating authorities to ensure that justice is delivered in accordance with the law through a prompt and impartial investigation.
In a communiqué, the district unit said it is closely monitoring the progress of the investigation and will continue to follow the case to ensure that justice is served.
Expressing anguish over the incident, APWWS central executive committee president Jarjum Ete said the case highlights the urgent need for society to acknowledge and address violence against women.
“The whole society, everyone in the state, have to wake up to the problem. This is why we should never let cases of domestic violence pass. People can go off the tangent. And in this particular case, she had to face abuse even after her separation. Women are not able to secure themselves even after coming out of an abusive marriage,” Ete said.
She called for exemplary punishment for the accused and urged society to unequivocally condemn all forms of violence against women.
“We have to absolutely condemn it and demand for exemplary punishment. Everyone in the society should condemn this,” she added.
