ITANAGAR : Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Wednesday welcomed the passage of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, saying the legislation marks a significant step towards protecting the aspirations of crores of young Indians and reinforcing public confidence in a transparent and merit-based examination system.

In a post on X, Khandu said the legislation reflects the Centre’s resolve to crack down on paper leaks, organised cheating and examination fraud.

“The passage of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 marks a strong step towards protecting the aspirations of crores of young Indians”, he said.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has made its resolve clear. Those who compromise the future of our youth through paper leaks, organised cheating and examination fraud will face the strictest action. With enhanced punishments, stronger deterrence, fast-track mechanisms and time-bound justice, this law strengthens trust in a transparent and merit-based examination system.

A decisive step towards a Viksit Bharat where hard work, dedication and integrity determine success,” Khandu added.

The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the amendment Bill, which seeks to strengthen the existing anti-paper leak law by prescribing stricter punishments and expediting the trial of offences related to public examinations.

The legislation provides for paper leak cases to be heard by special fast-track courts on a day-to-day basis, with trials to be completed within three months from the filing of the charge sheet.
