TEZU : The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Field Office, Tezu, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, organised a Special Outreach Programme on the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (VKV), Tezu, in Lohit district on Friday.

The programme was attended by VKV Tezu Principal Soumen Roy Chowdhury, Tezu Police Station Sub-Inspector P Baja and Inspector Sukhita Namchoom, along with students and teachers.

Welcoming the participants, CBC Tezu Head of Office P Kumar outlined the objectives of the outreach programme and stressed the need to educate young people about the dangers of substance abuse while encouraging collective efforts to build a drug-free society.

Resource person Devajit Chutia of VKV Tezu spoke on the history and objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, launched by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in 2020. He highlighted the challenges posed by illegal drug trafficking and emphasised the importance of collective action in promoting a healthy and prosperous nation.

Addressing the gathering, Sub-Inspector P Baja spoke on the harmful effects of drug abuse and underscored the role of parents, guardians, teachers and government agencies in preventing substance abuse among youth.

Inspector Sukhita Namchoom interacted with students and sensitised them to the ill effects of drug addiction, while Principal Soumen Roy Chowdhury urged students to stay away from drugs and contribute towards building a healthy, empowered nation.

Literary competitions were organised as part of the programme, and prizes were distributed to the winners. The participants also took a pledge to lead a drug-free life in support of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
