ITANAGAR, AUG 14:

Partition Horrors Remembrance Day was observed at several places across Arunachal Pradesh on Friday, with officials, students and citizens paying homage to those who lost their lives and suffered displacement during the Partition of India in 1947.

In Naharlagun, the department of art and culture organised a commemorative programme under the aegis of the union ministry of culture. Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights chairperson Ratan Anya urged the younger generation to learn from the tragedy and reject hatred and divisive forces.

Director of Information and Public Relations Gijum Tali highlighted India’s strength in “unity in diversity”, while Art and Culture Secretary Mamta Riba spoke on the significance of preserving national unity and social cohesion. A documentary was screened and an exhibition on Partition was also held.

At Yingkiong in Upper Siang district, deputy commissioner Talo Jerang inaugurated an exhibition titled “Partition of India – Memory, Loss and Resilience: 14 August 1947” at the DC office. Short videos on Partition were screened and two minutes of silence observed.

Jerang said remembering painful chapters of history should inspire people, particularly the younger generation, to uphold unity, peace, harmony and national integration.

In Pasighat, the East Siang district administration observed the day at the DC’s conference hall. SDO Kamin Darang said history was not merely a record of events but also a reminder of human resilience and the consequences of division. The programme included the rendition of “Vande Mataram”, screening of a short film, two minutes of silence and candle lighting.

At Tato in Shi-Yomi district, deputy commissioner Manjunath R attended a programme at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya and urged students to draw inspiration from the courage and resilience of those affected by Partition. An extempore speech competition was also organised.

Partition Horrors Remembrance Day was also observed at Daporijo in Upper Subansiri district with participation of students from Daporijo Degree College.

gration.
