Deomali police steps up action against drug menace

DEOMALI, AUG 18:

Deomali Police, with the assistance of members of the Wellness Counselling-cum-Rehabilitation Centre, demolished a vacant bamboo-type house at Udyog Colony here on Tuesday in the presence of an Executive Magistrate.

The house, belonging to Wangton Wangsa, had remained vacant after he shifted to his newly constructed residence. According to police, the structure was being used by drug users and peddlers for consumption and sale of narcotic substances.

The demolition was carried out as a preventive measure to prevent the premises from being used for unlawful activities or as a hideout by drug users and peddlers.

The police and administration said the action was part of ongoing efforts to curb the drug menace in Deomali and urged the public to cooperate with the authorities, report substance-related activities and join efforts to protect the younger generation from drug abuse.
