AALO, AUG 23:

Ajen IX89, an organisation comprising the Class IX batch of 1989 of Government Higher Secondary School Aalo, organised an avenue plantation-cum-drug awareness programme at New Market, Aalo, on Sunday.

West Siang Deputy Commissioner Mindo Loyi and West Siang Superintendent of Police Kardak Riba attended the programme as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

Addressing the gathering, Leparada MLA Nyabi Jini Dirchi appealed to the public to keep Aalo clean and green and urged the youth to stay away from drugs, which adversely affect physical and mental health. She also encouraged members of Ajen IX89 to undertake more social welfare activities.

SP Kardak Riba appreciated the organisation for taking up the plantation initiative and urged market shopkeepers to remain vigilant against drug-related activities. He appealed to the public to inform the district police about any involvement in drug-related activities.

Deputy Commissioner Mindo Loyi urged market committees, shopkeepers and residents to take responsibility for maintaining the newly planted saplings, which would enhance the beauty of Aalo town. He also called upon residents to keep the township neat and clean and appreciated Ajen IX89 for undertaking the social initiative.

More than 100 saplings were planted during the programme, while a railing was also constructed by Ajen IX89 to protect the plantation.
