National Sports Day celebrated with Khelo India Samvaad at Deomali

DEOMALI, AUG 27:

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Wangcha Rajkumar Government College Deomali organised the My Bharat–National Sports Day 2026 Khelo India Samvaad programme on the theme ‘Khel Ki Baat PM Ke Saath’ at Adhyaan: The Learning Pavilion on the college campus on Thursday.

Around 100 participants, including college principal Dr Watsen Bangsia, NSS Programme Officer Ngamwang Lowang, Tirap District Youth Officer My Bharat Sukhveer Bishnoi, Taekwondo athlete and Sports Authority of India representative Yorter Gangkak, faculty members, NSS volunteers and NCC cadets, attended the programme.

The programme featured a virtual address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who encouraged young participants to pursue excellence in sports and adopt physical fitness through discipline, dedication and hard work. The significance of National Sports Day, observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, was also highlighted.

An interactive session with Yorter Gangkak focused on career opportunities in sports, healthy living, time management, discipline, punctuality and the importance of regular exercise. Participants actively engaged in the discussion and raised queries on various aspects of sports and fitness.

Sukhveer Bishnoi highlighted the potential of youth power and encouraged participants to enrol on the My Bharat Portal to access information and opportunities related to youth development. He also briefed them on the objectives and activities of NSS and My Bharat.

Earlier, Ngamwang Lowang stressed the importance of physical fitness, discipline and perseverance among young people and urged them to draw inspiration from sporting legends and emulate their dedication and determination.

The programme concluded with the administration of the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ pledge, led by Dr Watsen Bangsia, reaffirming the participants’ commitment to a healthy, disciplined and drug-free society.
