BASAR, AUG 29:

The Department of Urban Affairs Basar Division organised an avenue plantation drive at the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) site here on land reclaimed following the successful remediation of legacy waste.

The initiative marks a significant step towards scientific waste management, environmental restoration and the conversion of a degraded urban space into a greener and more sustainable area.

Basar MLA Nyabi Jini Dirchi, Leparada Deputy Commissioner Himani Meena IAS, ADC Tamo Riba, IAS probationer Aashta Singh, Urban Development Executive Engineer Nabam Kai and other officials of the concerned departments attended the programme.

During the inspection, the MLA and DC commended the successful execution of the legacy waste remediation project and appreciated the efforts to transform the erstwhile waste-affected site into a green space.

They also appealed to citizens to participate actively in responsible waste management and emphasised that proper waste segregation and disposal are a collective civic responsibility.

The Department of Urban Affairs urged residents to segregate waste at source before handing it over to sanitation personnel and pay user fees regularly to support the continued operation and sustainability of waste management services.
