More than 70 students of Arunachal Pradesh University (APU) and Jawaharlal Nehru College (JNC) attended a one-day workshop on employment opportunities and career prospects for Hindi students at the APU Administrative Block here on Tuesday.

The workshop, titled “Employment Opportunities and Prospects for Students of Hindi,” was organised by the APU Department of Hindi in collaboration with Shabd Bharati (Hindi Resource Centre), Guwahati, and the Postgraduate Department of Hindi, JNC, as part of the Hindi Diwas Fortnight celebrations.

Speakers highlighted various career opportunities available to Hindi students, including posts such as Hindi Translator and Hindi Officer, teaching and research opportunities through NET/JRF, and recruitment through the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Hindi Translator examination.

APU Registrar Narmi Darang said interest in Hindi-related courses had increased significantly over the past 25 years and described Hindi as an important link among Arunachal Pradesh’s diverse tribal communities. He urged students to develop both language proficiency and professional skills to benefit from emerging employment opportunities.

Shabd Bharati Chairperson Prof Anant Kumar Nath said the organisation had been conducting employment-oriented Hindi courses across the Northeast for 25 years. He encouraged students to pursue diploma courses in translation and stressed the importance of time, commitment and determination in developing strong reading and writing skills.

JNC Hindi Department Head Dr H N Pandey spoke on the history and development of Hindi studies in the region and highlighted the role of Hindi Saptah and Hindi Pakhwada in promoting the language. He encouraged students to learn three languages while retaining their mother tongues and emphasised the importance of English as a global language.

Technical sessions led by Shabd Bharati General Secretary Dr Mohan Koirala and Kalicharan Basfor covered emerging employment trends in Hindi, opportunities in government and private sectors, translation careers in advertising and multinational companies, and preparation for the SSC Hindi Translator examination. Students were also given hands-on training in using Hindi on computers.

The workshop included group discussions and interactive question-and-answer sessions on competitive examinations, translation careers and career planning.

APU Dean, Academic Affairs, Prof PC Jena, along with faculty members, students and administrative staff of both institutions, attended the programme.
