YACHULI, SEP 11:
A one-day workshop on financial literacy, skill development and cybercrime awareness was organised by the Career Counselling and Guidance Cell of Neelam Taram Government College, Yachuli (NTGCY), in collaboration with the Keyi Panyor district administration, Cyber Crime Police Station Itanagar and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday.
The programme was attended by teaching and non-teaching staff and students of the college.
The session began with a welcome address by NTGCY Vice Principal Dr Techi Upen Tara, who highlighted the importance of financial literacy and cybercrime awareness for students and staff.
The first technical session was conducted by RBI Itanagar Manager Amit Yadav, who discussed the basics of budgeting, savings and investment. He explained the evolution and functions of money, the role of banks in deposits and lending, capital formation, payment and settlement systems, the structure of the Indian banking system and the importance of credit scores, including CIBIL.
Yadav also briefed participants on government financial and social security schemes, including PM Vidyalaxmi, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana, besides term and health insurance. He explained the risk-return aspects of fixed deposits, mutual funds, gold and stocks, and outlined the role of the RBI and its monetary policy functions.
The session also covered digital payment systems such as Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT), safe digital banking practices and essential do’s and don’ts. Yadav further briefed aspiring candidates on career opportunities in the RBI, including the selection process and examination pattern.
The second technical session was conducted by Cyber Crime Police Station Itanagar Officer-in-Charge Inspector Bumchu Krong, who focused on cybercrime awareness, internet and device security and responsible social media use.
Krong explained various forms of cybercrime, including hacking, phishing, malware, identity theft, online fraud and child-related cyber offences, using real-life cases and examples of emerging threats. He also highlighted relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The session covered cyberbullying, its prevention and the importance of empathy and responsible online behaviour. Participants were also briefed on device security measures such as strong passwords, biometric authentication, automatic updates and security software, along with privacy and security features, including two-factor authentication, on platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp and Gmail.
Krong also introduced StopNCII.org and explained its role in preventing the non-consensual sharing of intimate images and the process for reporting such incidents online.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Liza Mihin, Assistant Professor of Education and Convenor of the Career Counselling and Guidance Cell, who expressed gratitude to the resource persons and participants.
