The 14th Pham Khow Sowai Festival began at Magopam in West Kameng district on Friday, marking the start of a three-day celebration of the cultural heritage and traditions of the Bugun community.

Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering attended the inaugural ceremony as Chief Guest, while West Kameng Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar was the Guest of Honour. West Kameng SP DW Thongon also attended the event.

Bichom MLA Tenzin Nyima Glow was the Chief Patron, while Bichom ZPM Sunil Bachung was also present.

The festival aims to promote and strengthen the cultural identity of the Bugun community by providing a platform to showcase its traditional customs, cultural performances and heritage. It also seeks to encourage younger generations to learn about, preserve and carry forward their cultural legacy.

Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries extended greetings to the Bugun community and appreciated the organisers for their efforts towards preserving and promoting the region’s distinctive cultural traditions.

A series of cultural programmes and traditional activities have been lined up for the three-day festival, which will conclude on September 12. (Source: Mon Darpan)
