Governor Lt Gen KT Parnaik (Retd) has expressed displeasure over what he described as incorrect interpretations of his remarks on the situation in Taksing area of Upper Subansiri district, stating that Lok Bhavan has not acknowledged any intrusion into Indian territory.
According to a statement issued by Lok Bhavan on Saturday, the Governor held discussions with the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) and members of the Tagin community for over two hours and addressed the issues raised by them. He assured the organisations that the frontier population’s safety and security were being ensured by Army troops deployed in the sector.
The statement said the Governor had categorically stated that there was no new intrusion in the Taksing area. His observations were made in the context of public concerns and reports that had surfaced periodically regarding the border region.
Lok Bhavan termed as a “malicious misinterpretation” any suggestion that the Governor had endorsed claims of fresh intrusion or that he would pursue such a matter with the Defence and Home ministries and the Prime Minister.
It said the Governor’s position was consistent with that of Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and the Indian Army, who have rejected reports of any fresh intrusion into Arunachal Pradesh.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu had also rejected reports of a fresh Chinese incursion in the Taksing sector, stating that the Indian Army was deployed in the area and effectively safeguarding the nation’s borders. He had said there was no reason to believe that an intrusion had taken place and that any such claims would be independently verified with local stakeholders and the Army.
The Governor, the statement said, expressed full confidence in the vigilance, professionalism and operational preparedness of the Indian Armed Forces and their commitment to safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity. It added that the Government of India remained committed to protecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity while maintaining mechanisms to address border-related issues.
