The Indira Gandhi Technological and Medical Science University (IGTAMSU), Ziro, organised a Red Run Mini Marathon in collaboration with its Red Ribbon Club and the Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) on Monday to promote HIV/AIDS awareness and a stigma-free society among youth.

Held under the theme “Run for Awareness, Stride for a Stigma-Free Tomorrow,” the event began at Pai Gate, Hapoli, and culminated at BSNL Office Point, Ziro, with enthusiastic participation from students of various university departments.

Trade Development Officer Tai Arun flagged off the marathon as the chief guest. Addressing the participants, IGTAMSU Head of the Department of Commerce and Management Anwar Hussain highlighted the significance of the initiative.

During the prize distribution, Arun appreciated the participants and emphasised that the cause and active involvement were more important than winning. He urged students to maintain a drug-free campus, remain informed about HIV/AIDS and other serious health concerns, and contribute towards building a healthy society.

In the boys’ category, Tatlom Taying emerged as the winner, followed by Kanggam Taggu and Disi Tato as the first and second runners-up, respectively. In the girls’ category, Apung Konia secured first place, while Tamo Kuniya and Mimi Khabisow finished as the first and second runners-up.

Certificates and mementos were presented to the winners, with cash prizes awarded to the first-prize winners in both categories.

NSS In-charge T. Bidyananda Singh, faculty members and NSS volunteers also participated in the event, which reinforced messages of health, prevention and social responsibility among the youth.
