KHONSA, SEP 15:

The Department of Horticulture, Tirap district, organised a farmers’ training programme on potential horticulture crops under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) 2026–27 at Khonsa on Tuesday.

The programme was organised for farmers from eight blocks—Borduria-Bogapani, Bari-Basip, Khela-Lamsa, Khonsa, Kapu, Dadam, Lazu and Tutnu—with around 100 farmers participating.

Tirap Deputy Commissioner Badonlum Tawsik attended the programme as chief guest, while Khonsa Zilla Parishad Member (ZPM) Necha Wangsu was the guest of honour. District Agriculture Officer (DAO), Khonsa, attended as the special invitee.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by District Horticulture Officer (DHO), Khonsa, Tagom Ronya.

The technical sessions covered scientific cultivation and crop management practices for various potential horticultural crops. Dr AK Tiwari, Subject Matter Specialist (SMS), Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Deomali, conducted a session on arecanut and litchi. Agriculture Development Officer (ADO), Khonsa, N Wangno spoke on ginger, while Horticulture Development Officer (HDO), Khonsa, Tolong Sumnyan provided technical guidance on large cardamom and passion fruit.

The participating farmers were briefed on scientific cultivation practices, crop management and the potential of horticultural crops under MIDH 2026–27.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Horticulture Field Supervisor (HFS), Khonsa, Ganwo Tekwa, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, resource persons, farmers and officials involved in the programme.
