ZIRO, SEP 21:
Student volunteers of Indira Gandhi Technological and Medical Sciences University (IGTAMSU) concluded a seven-day Special National Service Scheme (NSS) Camp at Hong, the university’s adopted village, on Monday, undertaking a range of health, environmental, social and community-service activities.
Guided by the NSS motto, “Not Me But You”, the camp brought together students from Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences, Medical Laboratory Science, Radiology, Commerce, Physiotherapy and Nursing, who worked alongside local residents throughout the week.
The camp commenced on September 14 near Tapi Lepang with a preventive healthcare drive conducted by Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences volunteers. The students provided personal health consultations and shared information on hygiene and preventive healthcare with village families.
On September 15, volunteers joined local youth in a mini marathon following an Engineers’ Day programme, promoting physical fitness, discipline and healthy living.
Environmental conservation activities were undertaken on September 16, with Medical Laboratory Science and Radiology students planting native saplings across the village and interacting with residents on the importance of protecting local biodiversity.
On September 17, volunteers collaborated with the Blood Centre at Gyati Takka General Hospital, Ziro, to organise a voluntary blood donation drive, collecting 28 units for emergency medical requirements.
The camp also addressed social equality and community well-being. On September 18, Commerce and Management students observed International Equal Pay Day through interactive sessions on gender equality, fair employment practices and equal educational opportunities.
A community sanitation drive was organised on September 19, during which volunteers cleaned public areas and sensitised residents on proper waste disposal.
The camp concluded on September 20 with an action trek held as part of World Cleanup Day. Students collected litter along local trails and promoted the importance of keeping the surrounding hills and natural environment clean.
The university appreciated the cooperation and hospitality extended by the residents of Hong, the support of local healthcare officials and the commitment of student volunteers throughout the camp.
