NAHARLAGUN, OCT 2:

Students of St Thomas Residential School, Naharlagun, on Friday marked Gandhi Jayanti in a unique manner by turning their return journey aboard the Arunachal Express into a cleanliness and awareness campaign.

The students were returning to Naharlagun after a week-long educational study tour to Delhi.

They took up a cleanliness drive inside the train, cleaning the compartments and raising slogans promoting Swachh Bharat and Swachh Railway.

The initiative was carried out under the guidance of faculty members Junu Miroh, Shishupal Singh, Surbala and Augustine. The students’ efforts were appreciated by railway staff and fellow passengers, who lauded their initiative and civic sense.

Before the journey, School Director Easho M. Cheriyan had called upon students and the public to contribute to the Swachh Bharat and Swachh Railway campaigns.

“Instead of blaming the government, cleanliness must begin from our own mind and our own home. This is the true tribute to Mahatma Gandhi,” he said.

The initiative highlighted the importance of individual responsibility and civic participation in maintaining cleanliness and carrying forward the values associated with Mahatma Gandhi.
