Awareness camp on new labour codes

LONGDING, OCT 10:

The District Labour and Employment Department, in collaboration with the district administration, organised an awareness camp on new labour codes, bonded labour and child labour at the Multipurpose Hall in Longding on Saturday to promote workers’ rights and protection of vulnerable sections of society.

Advocate Epha Wangpan spoke on preventing bonded and child labour, emphasising the need to safeguard the rights, dignity and welfare of vulnerable workers.

District Art and Culture Officer Jamwang Lowang explained the key provisions of the four labour codes — the Code on Wages, Code on Social Security, Industrial Relations Code, and Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code. He also highlighted the distinctions between unorganised workers, gig workers and platform workers, stressing the importance of inclusive social security coverage.

Both resource persons emphasised the importance of eligible workers registering on the e-Shram portal to access social security benefits and welfare schemes.

The programme began with a welcome address by All Arunachal Pradesh Workers’ Union (AAPWU) Longding district unit general secretary Hanye Boham, followed by an address by unit president Tachai Thangkhoham. The vote of thanks was delivered by the unit’s women’s wing president Mongdu Wangsu.
