550 NCC cadets from 13 states conclude eight-day Rising Sun Trek

ITANAGAR, OCT 16:

The eight-day National Cadet Corps (NCC) Rising Sun Trek (NER Trek-I) concluded in Itanagar on Friday, with 550 cadets and 18 Associate NCC Officers (ANOs) from 13 states participating in activities aimed at promoting national integration, adventure and cultural understanding.

The camp began on October 10 at Mallo Tarin Government Higher Secondary School, Itanagar, under the aegis of the 1st Arunachal Pradesh Battalion NCC, Tezpur Group, Northeast Region Directorate.

The participants represented five NCC directorates: West Bengal and Sikkim, Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, and the Northeast Region.

During the camp, cadets undertook physical training and treks along hilly roads to Chimi village and through the forest tracks of the Poma hills. They also took part in a Survival Day exercise at Poma village, where they learnt to prepare food using locally available resources from forest and riverine areas.

Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona attended the Survival Day programme along with local villagers. Cadets were also introduced to practical knots, lashings and other techniques used by local communities in everyday life.

The programme included friendly matches and athletics competitions on the final day to encourage camaraderie among participants.

As part of their educational exposure, the cadets visited sites of historical and cultural importance to learn about Arunachal Pradesh’s heritage, flora and fauna. They also visited the Itanagar market, where interactions with local residents and shopkeepers provided insights into local livelihoods and the availability and management of resources.

The camp concluded with a message of unity and friendship, reinforcing national integration and encouraging cadets to explore the country’s diverse regions through similar initiatives.

The camp commandant thanked the principal of Mallo Tarin Government Higher Secondary School, the Director of Secondary Education and the state’s youth welfare officer for providing infrastructure and other facilities that contributed to the successful conduct of the camp. (DIPR)
