ITANAGAR, SEP 16: A four-member delegation from the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly is participating in the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) being held in Cape Town, South Africa, from September 13 to 19. The delegation is led by Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Tesam Pongte and comprises Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor, Khonsa East MLA Wanglam Sawin and Lumla MLA Tsering Lhamu. The legislators attended the inaugural proceedings of the conference, which has brought together parliamentary leaders, lawmakers and officials from across the Commonwealth. Hosted by the Parliament of South Africa and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) South Africa Branch, the conference is being attended by representatives from 56 Commonwealth countries and more than 180 national, state, provincial and territorial legislatures. The conference provides a platform for lawmakers to exchange views on legislative practices, democratic institutions and parliamentary systems, besides discussing common challenges facing legislatures and ways to strengthen parliamentary institutions, accountability and public representation. The participation of the Arunachal delegation provides an opportunity to engage with legislators from across the Commonwealth and exchange experiences on parliamentary functioning. The conference will conclude on September 19.    

NAMSAI, SEP 16: Oil India Limited (OIL) and the Namsai district administration signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the DC’s Conference Hall here on Wednesday to extend support for strengthening school infrastructure across the district during the financial year 2026-27. The initiative is part of OIL’s social responsibility efforts aimed at supporting education and community development. The district administration appreciated OIL’s initiative and expressed confidence that the collaboration would help improve educational facilities and enhance the overall learning environment for students across Namsai district. Officials of OIL, the district administration and concerned departments attended the MoU signing ceremony.    

NIRJULI, SEP 16: Governor Lt Gen KT Parnaik (Retd) felicitated National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets who represented Arunachal Pradesh at the Republic Day Camp (RDC), Republic Day Parade and Prime Minister’s Rally in New Delhi during 2025 and 2026 at NERIST here on Wednesday. Congratulating the cadets, the Governor said earning a place in the Republic Day Parade on Kartavya Path was a rare honour and a matter of immense pride for the cadets, their families, educational institutions and the people of Arunachal Pradesh. He said their participation carried special significance for the State as they served as ambassadors of Arunachal Pradesh, reflecting its discipline, confidence, rich cultural heritage, vibrant traditions and diverse tribal communities. Highlighting the role of NCC in nation-building, Parnaik said the country’s largest uniformed youth organisation has nurtured generations of young Indians with the values of discipline, leadership, character, courage and selfless service. Addressing the cadets, he said the future of India and Arunachal Pradesh rests with the youth and urged them to become role models for their peers and communities. Referring to the Prime Minister’s call at the BRICS Summit to build an “ecosystem of solutions”, the Governor encouraged young people to become problem-solvers, innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers and community leaders and work collectively towards practical and sustainable solutions to societal challenges. The Governor said education, discipline and motivation were essential qualities for every good citizen. He advised the cadets to remain physically fit, mentally alert and morally upright, while staying connected to their roots and cultural heritage and embracing modern knowledge and technology. He expressed confidence that the cadets would uphold the NCC motto, “Unity and Discipline”, and contribute towards the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047 and a prosperous Arunachal Pradesh through service, unity and patriotism. Roing MLA and Advisor to the Education and Home Ministers Muthchu Mithi, Education Secretary Kanto Danggen and Director of Secondary Education Marte Koyu also addressed the cadets. NERIST Director Prof Narendranath S, NCC Group Headquarters Tezpur Commander Brig Mayank Vaid, NERIST In-charge Registrar Prof Sarsing Gao, Col Surjit Rai, NCC Admin Sokun Singh, youth officers, NCC instructors, cadets and school students attended the programme. Among those felicitated for their participation in RDC 2025 were Senior Under Officer Lunkung Yaji of 1 AP Battalion NCC, Naharlagun, who participated in the Republic Day Parade; Senior Under Officer Galmu Tamang, Under Officer Vishal Rai and Sergeant Chow Sidharth Manlai of 22 AP Battalion NCC, Pasighat, who participated in the Prime Minister’s Rally; and Sergeant Mitet Megu of 22 AP Battalion NCC, Pasighat, who participated in the Cultural Programme. For RDC 2026, Under Officer Koj Nancy, Cadet Elisha Kino and Cadet Likha Takap of 1 AP Battalion NCC, Naharlagun, were felicitated for their participation in the Cultural Programme. Senior Under Officers Rahul Chutia and Ajay Singh and Corporal Tamo Suniya of 1 AP Battalion NCC, Naharlagun, along with Sergeants Nanu Tamang and Bir Tamang of 2 AP Battalion NCC, Tawang, were honoured for their participation in the Prime Minister’s Rally. Cadet James Modi of 22 AP Battalion NCC, Pasighat, was also felicitated for participating in the Cultural Programme. Captain Palvinder Singh, Associate NCC Officer of Rajiv Gandhi Government Polytechnic College, Itanagar, was also felicitated for his contribution to NCC training and youth development. The State has three NCC units—1 AP NCC Battalion, Naharlagun; 22 AP NCC Battalion, Pasighat; and 2 AP Mixed NCC Battalion, Tawang—with a total strength of 12,760 cadets.  

ZIRO, SEP 16: The Department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, organised an Industry Consultation Meet under the Prime Minister’s Scheme for Employment through Technical Upgradation (PM-SETU) in Ziro, Lower Subansiri district, on Wednesday to strengthen the state’s technical education and vocational skilling ecosystem. Commerce and Industries, Labour and Employment, and Information, Public Relations and Printing Minister Nyato Dukam, who was the chief guest, was received by Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme, Superintendent of Police Techi Hanyir and other district officials. Addressing industry representatives, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and government officials, Dukam emphasised the need to bridge the gap between evolving industry requirements and the employability of local youth through stronger public-private partnerships. Advisor to the Minister Dr Mohesh Chai, the guest of honour, stressed the importance of integrated institutional growth and coordinated sectoral development to strengthen the regional workforce. The programme also featured an address by Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Secretary Bullo Mamu, while Joint Secretary-cum-Director Sibo Passing participated in the ceremonial lamp-lighting. Representatives of the Union Ministry and Deputy Director Gyati Kacho made presentations on the roadmap for upgrading Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state under the PM-SETU framework. An interactive open-house session was held with industry and PSU representatives, who were invited to explore their role as prospective Anchor Industry Partners (AIPs). The programme concluded with a visit to the Government Industrial Training Institute at Manipolyang. The consultation emphasised aligning vocational infrastructure with emerging industrial requirements to expand employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for the youth of Arunachal Pradesh.        

RONO HILLS, SEP 16: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) organised an orientation programme for Departmental NAAC Coordinators and departmental staff at the Smart Theatre, Department of Computer Science, RGU, on Wednesday. The programme, attended by 104 participants from various departments and branches of the university, focused on strengthening the quality assurance mechanism and sensitising participants to NAAC accreditation, National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, documentation, data management and quality enhancement. The programme commenced with a welcome address by RGU IQAC Director Prof. Utpal Bhattacharjee, who highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts at the departmental level for strengthening the university’s internal quality assurance system. He stressed the need for systematic documentation and data management and active participation of departmental coordinators and staff in quality enhancement initiatives and the assessment and accreditation process. The first technical session on “NAAC Accreditation” was conducted by RGU Associate Professor Dr Rajesh Chakrabarty. He discussed the existing NAAC accreditation system as well as the proposed framework, highlighting emerging requirements and approaches in the assessment and accreditation process. He also emphasised systematic data collection, proper documentation, evidence-based quality initiatives and continuous improvement. The second technical session on “National Education Policy (NEP) 2020” was conducted by RGU Department of Social Sciences Assistant Professor Dr Ravi Ranjan Kumar. He outlined 18 key aspects of NEP 2020 and their relevance to higher education institutions, besides explaining the coding system for curricula and the importance of systematic curriculum development and documentation. He also highlighted the mapping of Course Outcomes with Learning Outcomes as an essential component of outcome-based education and academic planning. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by IQAC member Dr Maibam Sanju Meetei, who expressed gratitude to the resource persons, university authorities, Departmental NAAC Coordinators, departmental staff and participants for their cooperation. The programme reaffirmed RGU’s commitment to continuous quality enhancement, effective implementation of NEP 2020 and preparedness for the NAAC assessment and accreditation process.
