ITANAGAR : A sanitary supervisor at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) here was arrested for allegedly filming women inside a hospital washroom using a mobile phone, police said on Friday. The accused, identified as Tamchi Nido (29), a resident of Kurung Kumey district, had been working as a multi-tasking staff member at the premier healthcare institute since 2021 before being promoted as sanitary supervisor in May this year, Itanagar Capital Region SP Nyelam Nega said. The matter came to light on Thursday morning when a woman using a general washroom near the Intensive Care Cardiac Unit (ICCU) block noticed a mobile phone placed through the ventilation gap to film her. The victim immediately raised an alarm, alerting her family members and bystanders, the SP said. The accused allegedly attempted to flee and tried to delete the video recordings from his mobile phone. He was, however, apprehended by a police team led by Naharlagun Police Station officer-in-charge Inspector Krishnendu Dev and formally arrested. “During interrogation, the accused confessed that he had been secretly recording women inside the hospital washrooms for the past three to four months. Based on his disclosure, investigators have recovered several voyeuristic videos from his mobile handset,” the SP said. Police have seized the mobile phone used in the commission of the offence. A case has been registered at the Naharlagun Police Station under Sections 74, 77, 78(1), and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertain to voyeurism, sexual harassment, and destruction of evidence. Assuring strict action, the SP said an investigation is underway under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police Rishi Longdo to ensure swift justice to the victims. Nido will be produced before a local court for appropriate legal proceedings, the SP added. (Source: PTI)  

ITANAGAR : Arunachal Pradesh Police have recovered 14 stolen two-wheelers and taken four minors into custody in this connection. Capital Superintendent of Police Jummar Basar said a coordinated operation was launched after a theft case was registered at Itanagar police station on Thursday. After a case was registered, police apprehended four children in conflict with the law, aged between 10 and 14 years, in accordance with legal protocols, the SP said. Based on disclosures made by the apprehended minors during the investigation, a police team recovered 14 stolen two-wheelers, including a gearless scooter involved in the primary case, from various locations across the Itanagar capital region and neighbouring Papum Pare district, Basar added. As the registration, engine, and chassis numbers of several recovered two-wheelers appear to have been tampered with by the offenders, specialised units are currently conducting field verifications to establish actual ownership details. The SP said the vehicles would be handed over to their rightful owners upon the completion of all due legal formalities. (Source: PTI)      

ITANAGAR : One Indian Army personnel was killed, and two others were injured when their truck veered off the road and fell down a steep hillside along National Highway 13 in West Kameng district on Friday, officials said. The vehicle, belonging to the 18 Sikh Light Infantry (LI), was carrying three personnel toward their unit when the accident occurred at around 2 pm. According to officials, the truck broke through the chain-link fencing of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) 30th Battalion headquarters before crashing near the battalion’s physical training (PT) ground. The stretch of NH-13 passing the area runs along a highly precarious, steep hillside. A Rapid Response Team (RRT) from the 30th Battalion SSB immediately rushed to the crash site to launch a rescue operation, an official report said. “One of the injured personnel was initially rushed to the SSB Unit MI Room, where the unit medical officer administered first aid before referring him to the district hospital in Bomdila. The other two personnel were promptly evacuated to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Dirang,” the report said. The attending doctor at CHC Dirang declared one person brought dead. The remaining two Army personnel are currently undergoing medical treatment at the Bomdila and Dirang healthcare facilities, respectively. Their conditions are being monitored. The concerned Army units have been formally notified of the incident, and further details regarding the cause of the accident are awaited. (Source: PTI)      

ITANAGAR : The Confederation of Service Association of Arunachal Pradesh (CoSAAP) has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and widespread devastation caused by the flash flood that struck Poosa village under Yazali Circle in Keyi Panyor district on June 24. In a statement, CoSAAP conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the eternal peace of those who lost their lives in the tragedy, reportedly triggered by a cloudburst. The organisation also prayed for strength and courage for the affected families during this difficult time. The association noted that the disaster caused extensive damage to houses, agricultural fields, livestock, public infrastructure and livelihoods, leaving many families homeless and in urgent need of assistance. Appealing for collective humanitarian support, CoSAAP called upon government employees across the state, particularly those serving in or hailing from Keyi Panyor district, to contribute generously in cash or kind according to their capacity. The organisation stated that all financial contributions collected through the CoSAAP Keyi Panyor district unit would be deposited into the Deputy Commissioner’s Relief Fund, Keyi Panyor, for relief, rehabilitation and welfare of the affected families. CoSAAP also requested its Keyi Panyor district unit to coordinate with Heads of Departments (HoDs) for effective mobilisation and collection of relief assistance and submit a consolidated report of the contributions. In the appeal, CoSAAP urged citizens and government employees to stand united with the flood-affected families and extend support in the spirit of compassion, solidarity and social responsibility. The appeal was jointly issued by CoSAAP President Likha Tech and Secretary General Leena Taggu.    

KHONSA : The Khonsa Planning Authority (KPA) on Friday reviewed the Draft Geographic Information System (GIS)-Based Master Plan-2051 for Khonsa under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0, with a focus on sustainable urban growth, infrastructure development and rational land use. The meeting of the Local Planning Authority (LPA), held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, was chaired by Khonsa Deputy Commissioner-cum-KPA Chairman Techu Aran. Addressing the meeting, KPA Town Planner-cum-Member Secretary Dacha Bagang described the GIS-based Master Plan as a long-term blueprint for Khonsa’s planned development over the next 25 years. He urged stakeholder departments to submit constructive suggestions along with short-, medium- and long-term development proposals for incorporation into the vision document. Following a detailed presentation by the consultant, M/s Remote Sensing Instruments (RSI), Hyderabad, hard and soft copies of the draft plan were distributed to stakeholders for public inspection and feedback. During the deliberations, Khonsa Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Planning and Development Officer Namneet Singh observed that the availability of government land for expansion within the town has become extremely limited. He emphasised the need for a comprehensive assessment of existing land use, removal of encroachments from roads and drains, improvement of electrical infrastructure within the notified Right of Way (RoW), and greater emphasis on redevelopment and optimum utilisation of the existing township instead of expanding towards peripheral areas. Officials of the Public Works Department (PWD) stressed the need to upgrade the town’s road, drainage and sewerage infrastructure and recommended a sector-wise survey of road Right of Way for better planning. The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) suggested reviewing Khonsa’s water supply system based on existing source capacity and future demand to ensure sustainable water management. Summing up the deliberations, Khonsa Deputy Commissioner Techu Aran directed that all observations and recommendations be incorporated into the revised Draft Master Plan-2051 to prepare a comprehensive and practical roadmap for the town’s future development. He also underscored the importance of coordinated planning among all departments to ensure balanced and sustainable urban growth. The meeting unanimously deferred approval of the draft plan and resolved that all Heads of Departments (HoDs) would submit authenticated data, departmental observations and feedback to the consultant within the stipulated timeframe. The consultant will revise the draft based on the inputs received and submit the updated plan within 60 days. The next meeting of the Local Planning Authority will be convened thereafter to review the revised draft for consideration and approval. Among those present were senior officers of the district administration, Arunachal Pradesh Police, PWD, PHED, Power Department, Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (APEDA), and representatives of the consultant agency, M/s Remote Sensing Instruments, Hyderabad. DAPORIJO : The District Consultative Committee (DCC) and District Level Review Committee (DLRC) on Friday reviewed the banking performance and implementation of government-sponsored credit schemes in Upper Subansiri district, besides unveiling the Annual Credit Plan (ACP) 2026-27. The meeting, held for the quarter ended March 2026, was chaired by Upper Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Tasso Gambo and attended by representatives of banks, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), line departments and other stakeholders. Reviewing the district’s banking performance, the committee noted that total deposits increased from ₹61,332.07 lakh in December 2025 to ₹73,497.36 lakh in March 2026, while total advances rose from ₹39,155.89 lakh to ₹40,841.68 lakh during the same period. The district’s Credit-Deposit (CD) Ratio stood at 55.57 per cent as of March 31, 2026. The committee reviewed the implementation of the State Government’s flagship schemes, including Atma Nirbhar Krishi Yojana (ANKY), Atma Nirbhar Bagwani Yojana (ANBY), Atma Nirbhar Pashu Palan Yojana (ANPY), Atma Nirbhar Matsya Palan Yojana (ANMPY), Atma Nirbhar Plantation Programme Yojana (ANPPY) and Deendayal Upadhyay Swavalamban Yojana (DDUSY). Members also reviewed the progress of the ACP, agriculture and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) lending, Priority Sector Lending, Kisan Credit Card (KCC), Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Social Security Schemes (SSS). They stressed the need to improve credit flow to priority sectors, weaker sections and PM-Kisan beneficiaries to promote inclusive economic growth. The meeting emphasised strengthening financial literacy and public awareness on banking services, digital financial transactions, government-sponsored credit schemes and responsible borrowing, particularly in rural and remote areas. Members resolved to intensify financial literacy programmes through coordinated efforts by banks and line departments. The committee also discussed preparation of the Potential Linked Credit Plan (PLP) 2027-28 in coordination with NABARD. During the meeting, Upper Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Tasso Gambo formally unveiled the ACP 2026-27, which will serve as a roadmap for enhancing institutional credit flow and supporting inclusive economic development in the district. Issues relating to Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) and Bakijai cases also came up for discussion, with members stressing the need for coordinated efforts to improve loan recovery while ensuring timely credit support to eligible beneficiaries. In his concluding remarks, the Deputy Commissioner called upon banks and line departments to work in close coordination for effective implementation of government schemes, timely credit delivery and greater financial inclusion. He emphasised that enhanced institutional credit, particularly for agriculture, MSMEs, SHGs and rural entrepreneurs, is vital for the socio-economic development of the district. (DIPR)
