NAMSANGMUKH, OCT 7:
The Deomali Forest Division has launched drone surveillance to monitor elephant movement following reports of elephant nuisance near the IRBN Camp at Namsangmukh.
The surveillance operation has been conducted over the past two days under the supervision of the Range Forest Officer, Deomali, in the presence of Deomali Town Magistrate-cum-Circle Officer Toko Kacha.
During the operation, a herd of around 17 elephants was spotted in close proximity to the IRBN Camp. The drone surveillance helped drive the herd away from the camp area, reducing the immediate threat to personnel and nearby residents.
As a precautionary measure, firecrackers were also distributed among residents in vulnerable areas for use in case of elephant intrusion, with instructions to follow necessary safety precautions.
The Range Forest Officer has appealed to residents to remain vigilant, particularly during night hours, and avoid approaching or disturbing elephants. People have also been advised to immediately inform the Forest Department about any elephant sighting or movement near human habitation.
The Forest Department said the ongoing surveillance is aimed at mitigating risks and ensuring public safety.
