The Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science and Technology (APSCS&T) organised a one-day workshop on “Empowering Adolescent Girls through Science & Technology-Driven Menstrual Hygiene Management” at Calvary English School Moinhappa to mark World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026.
The programme combined scientific education, open discussion and practical interventions aimed at improving menstrual hygiene awareness, dispelling myths and promoting health and dignity among adolescent girls.
APSCS&T Deputy Director Pakgnu Lombi welcomed the participants and highlighted the role of science and technology in promoting personal health awareness. Education Officer Gem Peri conducted a session on the biology of menstruation, covering menarche, ovulation, menstrual cycle stages and essential hygiene practices. A visual animation was also screened to explain the menstrual cycle and address common misconceptions.
APSCS&T SC-C Yumbi Bijum Yomgam briefed the students on the significance of Menstrual Hygiene Day and outlined the council’s school-based intervention programme. As part of the initiative, a sanitary napkin vending machine, sanitary napkin incinerator and dignity kits were provided to the school.
The vending machine will facilitate easy access to sanitary napkins, while the incinerator will enable hygienic and environmentally responsible disposal of menstrual waste. The dignity kits contained sanitary napkins of different sizes, hand towels, innerwear and hand soap.
Yomgam also administered a pledge calling for the replacement of myths with facts, silence with open conversation and embarrassment with confidence. She subsequently conducted practical demonstrations on operating and refilling the vending machine and using the incinerator, with support from mentor Tana Tuna and nurse Kolie Yama.
The equipment and dignity kits were formally handed over to the school leadership in the presence of Principal Nich Yania.
In the vote of thanks, Vice Principal Likha Kaku appreciated APSCS&T for providing scientific awareness and practical solutions to support menstrual hygiene among students.
