KAMO, NOV 4:
Deputy Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Kardo Nyigyor on Wednesday inaugurated the 300-KW Sibe Micro Hydel Scheme (MHS) at Kamo, near Taramori village under Sibe Circle of Lower Siang district.
The project, with an installed capacity of 2×150 KW, is expected to provide electricity to 14 villages under Sibe Circle, with the potential to extend connectivity to several more villages under Gensi Circle and adjoining areas. Constructed at the confluence of the Beche and Sibe rivers, the project has commenced power generation using renewable hydroelectric energy.
Addressing the gathering, Nyigyor described the project as a long-cherished shared dream of his and former minister late Jomde Kena. He expressed satisfaction over its completion, saying it fulfilled a long-standing need of people in the remote villages and would bring them much-needed relief.
Emphasising the need to identify and develop more such projects, Nyigyor said the 300-KW facility had the potential to generate surplus electricity beyond the immediate requirements of the local population.
He also highlighted the development of public utility infrastructure in the area. Responding to a memorandum submitted by local residents, he assured them that their demands, particularly the construction of an approach road and bachelor barracks at the project site, would be addressed in due course.
Chief Engineer of the Department of Hydro Power Development (DHPD), Siang Basin, Karom Perme, said the project had faced considerable challenges and risks during execution but was completed through the efforts of the divisional engineer and the cooperation of local residents. He added that it was the first project of its kind in the Siang Basin to be commissioned by the department following its reconstitution.
Lower Siang Deputy Commissioner Gobi Nyicyor appreciated the commissioning of the project and observed that provisions for engaging local people in Group C and D posts would have helped address local concerns and ensure greater participation of the community.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Superintendent of Police Bomken Basar, DHPD Superintending Engineer Gumto Ete, heads of district departments, panchayat leaders, Gaon Burahs, community representatives, members of women’s groups and officials and staff of the Hydro Power Department. (DIPR)
