Manipur Cong holds protests demanding removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar

IMPHAL, SEP 28:

Congress members and supporters staged protests across several districts of Manipur on Monday, demanding the removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar over the party’s allegations concerning the functioning of the EC and the SIR of electoral rolls.

In Imphal East district, Congress members took to the streets near the district commissioner’s office at Porompat, raising slogans against Kumar.

They held placards that read ‘Save democracy, save EC’ and ‘Our vote, our rights’.

Congress vice-president Amin Shah said, “Our protest against Kumar is part of the nationwide protest. Our objective is for him to be arrested and justice delivered as well as protection of democratic institutions.”

In Imphal West district, Congress protesters held placards reading ‘Gyanesh Kumar is enemy of India’ in front of the chief electoral officer’s office at Lamphelpat.

Protests were also held in front of the DC office in Thoubal district, where demonstrators burnt effigies of Kumar and raised slogans of ‘Down, down BJP’.

Similar protests were held at the Churachandpur district headquarters by members of the district Congress committee. (Source: PTI)
