Capital police launches ‘Project Sahtam’

ITANAGAR, NOV 4:

The Capital Police has launched ‘Project Sahtam’, a free and voluntary verification initiative for tenants, employees and domestic helpers in Itanagar, with the pilot drive scheduled from November 5 to 18.

The initiative, launched under the guidance of Capital Superintendent of Police Jummar Basar, aims to enhance community safety by verifying the identities and addresses of individuals employed in households and workplaces or residing as tenants. The word ‘Sahtam’ in the Nyishi language means protection or shield.

The 14-day pilot phase will cover the jurisdiction of Itanagar Police Station, with the area divided into four sectors under designated Sector Officers. Details of the remaining sectors will be announced later.

Under the initiative, identity documents, photographs and present and permanent addresses will be verified, along with available authorised criminal records. The police has stated that participation is entirely voluntary and free of cost, and all collected information will remain confidential within authorised police custody.

Residents can obtain the prescribed forms for tenants, employees and domestic helpers from the official Capital Police Facebook page or collect them from Itanagar Police Station. Completed forms, along with photographs and identification documents, must be submitted at the police station for verification. Reports will generally be provided within a week through WhatsApp or in person.

For assistance, residents can contact the designated Sector Officers or Itanagar Police Station at 8798127421 or 6009095588.
