ITANAGAR, OCT 9:
The All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) is celebrating its Golden Jubilee with a series of sporting, cultural and community programmes at Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar from October 1 to 15, marking 50 years of its contribution to the Nyishi community.
The celebrations began on October 1 with a marathon that drew around 400 participants. Sports Authority of Arunachal chairman Neelam John attended the flag-off ceremony as the chief guest, while Director of Sports Tadar Appa was also present.
In the men’s category, Toko Tab secured first position, followed by Taba Zobang and Chamu. In the women’s category, Tadar Chuku won first position, followed by Chera Loku and Bengia Appi.
The Golden Jubilee’s formal inauguration and the opening of the Namlo were held at IG Park on October 7, with Home Minister Mama Natung as the chief guest and Nyishi Elite Society general secretary Nabam Takar as the guest of honour.
Addressing the gathering, Natung urged those calling bandhs to consider the economic losses and hardships such shutdowns cause to the public, particularly the Nyishi community.
Takar called upon young people to channel their energy constructively, urging them to become active contributors to social transformation rather than passive observers.
The Nyishi Baptist Church Council, led by James Techi Tara, organised Durum Rum Nam, a traditional Nyishi ritual associated with major celebrations, highlighting the community’s cultural identity and collective spirit.
Sports competitions were formally inaugurated on October 8 by Sports Minister Kento Jini. Tali MLA Jikke Tako attended as the guest of honour, while Lekang MLA Likha Soni was the special guest. Congratulating the association on completing 50 years, Jini appreciated its efforts to uphold its legacy and inspire the younger generation through sports and community engagement.
The evening programme featured Namlo Durum and a gala dinner hosted by ANYA. Former Member of Parliament and former All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union leader Takam Sanjoy attended the event.
The Golden Jubilee provides an opportunity to reflect on the association’s journey, recognise the contributions of past and present leaders, and renew its commitment to the welfare and progress of the Nyishi community.
The celebrations will continue until October 15, with further programmes planned to promote cultural preservation, youth empowerment, sports and community solidarity.
