Bogong remembers unsung heroes of Anglo-Abor war

PASIGHAT, AUG 15:

Bogong Panchayat observed the 80th Independence Day on Saturday by paying tribute to three unsung heroes of the Anglo-Abor War of 1859 at the memorial pillar erected in their memory.

The programme honoured Lt Jorin Perme, Lt Seltum Yomso and Lt Basing Moyong, who laid down their lives while discharging responsibilities entrusted to them by the Romkang Village Council.

All Gram Panchayat Chairpersons (GPCs), Gram Panchayat Members (GPMs), village presidents and secretaries attended the programme. Bogong Banggo Kebang president Basalung Jamoh attended as chief guest, while the Bogong-II ZPM was present as guest of honour.

The gathering paid floral tribute to the three heroes and remembered their valour, courage and sacrifice. Speakers highlighted the importance of preserving the memory of those who made sacrifices in the course of duty and whose contributions form an integral part of the region’s history.

The observance at the memorial pillar also highlighted the rich historical legacy of the area and the need to pass the stories of such unsung heroes on to future generations.
