TAWANG, AUG 18:
A three-day Capacity Building Programme for primary teachers (PRTs) of Tawang district commenced at Timilo Boutique here on Tuesday, with teachers from across the district participating in the training.
Organised by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Itanagar, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, the programme aims to strengthen teachers’ professional competencies and improve classroom teaching and learning practices.
Tawang Deputy Commissioner (DC) Namgyal Angmo attended the inaugural session as the chief guest. Deputy Director of School Education (DDSE) Hridar Phuntsok, Tawang; Assistant Director, SCERT, Mudang Omo; and resource persons from the Reach and Teach Foundation, knowledge partner of the Department of Education, were also present.
In his welcome address, Omo said the programme was designed in response to feedback from teachers seeking focused capacity-building support at the primary level. He noted that primary teachers play a crucial role in laying a strong educational foundation for children and said the initiative was being conducted across the State.
Tawang DDSE Hridar Phuntsok stressed the importance of continuous professional development, saying teachers must regularly update their knowledge, skills and teaching techniques to meet the changing requirements of education.
Addressing the participants, DC Namgyal Angmo urged teachers to remain sincere, attentive and actively engaged throughout the three-day programme. She called for interactive sessions and encouraged teachers to share innovative teaching methods and best practices followed in their respective schools.
Highlighting the importance of primary education, Angmo urged teachers to move beyond conventional teaching methods and nurture critical thinking, curiosity and reading habits among children from an early age.
She also requested SCERT to consider introducing a structured curriculum for pre-primary and Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) to strengthen foundational learning and improve children’s readiness for formal schooling.
The DC appreciated SCERT and the Reach and Teach Foundation for extending capacity-building programmes to the border district and conducting similar initiatives in Tawang in the previous year as well.
During the next three days, teachers will participate in interactive learning and capacity-building sessions focused on improving classroom practices, teaching methodologies and foundational education.
