DNGC holds orientation for new batch of students

ITANAGAR, SEP 2:

Dera Natung Government College (DNGC), Itanagar, organised its Orientation Programme 2026 on Wednesday for newly admitted students of B.A., B.Com. and B.Sc. Semester I for the academic session 2026–27.

The programme served as an academic induction initiative to familiarise students with the college’s academic environment, institutional structure, examination system, National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, library facilities, scholarships, student portal and other aspects of college life.

The orientation was conducted in four discipline-specific groups to provide students with stream-wise academic guidance. Group I comprised B.Sc. students and B.Com. students, while Group II included B.A. students of Political Science, Education, Economics and Hindi. Group III comprised students of Geography, Sociology and Mass Communication, and Group IV included students of Anthropology, History and English.

Each group had a dedicated session with faculty members from the respective disciplines, covering course structures, academic requirements, areas of study and expectations. Students also interacted with faculty members and raised queries regarding their chosen subjects and academic journey.

A major component of the programme was the Expert/Orientation Panel, comprising faculty members from the concerned departments, who provided subject-specific guidance and responded to students’ questions.

Students were also introduced to the undergraduate academic framework under NEP 2020, including Major, Minor, Multidisciplinary Course (MDC), Ability Enhancement Course (AEC), Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) and Value Added Course (VAC). Particular emphasis was placed on subject combinations and the academic choices available to students.

An orientation session on the college’s Student Portal sensitised students to the importance of their Student ID (SID), registered mobile numbers and login credentials for accessing academic profiles and student services. Students were advised to keep their credentials secure and use the portal responsibly.

The Library Orientation session familiarised students with library resources and encouraged them to develop regular reading and independent learning habits. A Scholarship Orientation session also provided information on available scholarship opportunities, eligibility, documentation and timely application procedures.

Interactive question-and-answer sessions enabled students to seek clarification on courses, subject combinations, examinations, internal assessment, college facilities and academic progression. The sessions also helped establish an open academic interaction between faculty members and the new batch.

The programme encouraged students to look beyond classroom learning by participating in academic and co-curricular activities and making effective use of institutional resources while developing independence, discipline and a sense of responsibility.

The orientation programme was conceived by Dr Kumar Tok and introduced at DNGC during the 2016–17 academic session. The 2026 programme was organised under his guidance, with Assistant Professor in the Department of English Goli Nyodu serving as Convenor and Assistant Professor (Guest) in the Department of English Dr Bomter Dirchi as Co-Convenor. Faculty members from various departments contributed as members of the Orientation/Expert Panel.

The programme provided the newly admitted students with a comprehensive introduction to DNGC and its academic environment, helping them begin their undergraduate journey with greater confidence, clarity and a sense of belonging.

The college expressed hope that the new students would make the best use of the opportunities available to them, participate actively in academic life and contribute positively to the intellectual and institutional culture of DNGC.
