PASIGHAT, MAY 5:
Continuing its anti-narcotics drive under Operation Dawn 2.0, East Siang Police apprehended one individual and seized suspected heroin and ganja during an operation conducted under Pasighat Police Station on Tuesday.
Acting on credible information received around 9:05 am regarding illegal trafficking of narcotic substances, a police team led by ADS in-charge Ayup Boko, along with officers Amum Panyang, K Tangha, Kodak Dagium and other personnel, set up a naka based on intelligence inputs.
The team intercepted Maklung Tayeng of Mebo, East Siang, who was travelling to Pasighat in a Night Super bus. In the presence of Pasighat Sub-Divisional Officer Sanjay Taram, a body search was conducted, leading to the recovery of suspected heroin weighing 1.49 grams (including packet) and ganja weighing 3.12 grams (including packet).
The seized contraband was duly weighed, packed, sealed and documented in accordance with legal procedures. The entire operation was videographed to ensure transparency.
A case has been registered at Pasighat Police Station vide Case No. 45/26 under Sections 21(a) and 20(b)(ii)(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway.
East Siang Superintendent of Police Pankaj Lamba commended the efforts of the police team and Anti-Drug Squad, reiterating the district police’s zero-tolerance policy against drug-related offences. He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any illicit activities, emphasising the importance of community cooperation in achieving a drug-free East Siang.
