ITANAGAR : Governor Lt Gen KT Parnaik (Retd) extended his greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of the 12th International Day of Yoga, urging citizens to embrace yoga as an integral part of their daily lifestyle.
In his message, the Governor said that this year’s theme, ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing’, underscores the enduring significance of yoga in promoting physical vitality, mental well-being and emotional balance at every stage of life.
Describing yoga as one of India’s most valuable gifts to humanity, he said it is far more than a form of physical exercise. “Yoga is a holistic way of life that fosters harmony between the body, mind and spirit,” he said.
The Governor noted that regular practice of asanas, pranayama and meditation enhances flexibility, strength, balance and resilience while helping reduce stress and cultivate inner peace. It enables individuals to lead healthier, happier and more productive lives, he added.
Highlighting yoga’s growing global acceptance, Parnaik said the international recognition of yoga was made possible through the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose initiative led to the United Nations declaring June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. He added that the Prime Minister’s message of yoga as a force that unites individuals, communities and nations continues to inspire millions worldwide.
The Governor encouraged people of all age groups, particularly youth and senior citizens, to adopt yoga as a daily practice. Even a few minutes of yoga every day can significantly contribute to healthy ageing, disease prevention and overall well-being, he said.
Appealing to citizens to make yoga a lifelong companion, Parnaik said, “Let us embrace yoga as a daily habit on the path to health, happiness and harmony.”
