Guv reviews NERIST situation, stresses restoration of academic normalcy

ITANAGAR : North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) Director Prof Narendranath S called on Governor Lt Gen KT Parnaik (Retd) at Lok Bhavan on Tuesday and briefed him on recent developments on the institute’s campus and the measures being taken to restore normalcy and ensure the well-being of students and faculty members.

The Governor, who is also the President of the NERIST Society, expressed concern over the recent incidents and stressed the need to take appropriate measures to prevent any recurrence.

Emphasising the importance of maintaining peace, discipline and a conducive academic environment, the Governor said NERIST is one of the premier institutions of higher and technical education in the Northeast with a distinguished legacy of nurturing scientific temper, innovation and skilled human resources.

Parnaik observed that any disruption to the academic atmosphere adversely affects the aspirations and future of students and underscored that the interests of students and the reputation of the institution must remain paramount.

The Governor said he has been in regular contact with the institute’s administration, faculty members and state police authorities regarding the situation. He further stated that he had received assurances from the state government that a thorough inquiry would be conducted and that those found responsible for the unruly episode would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

Highlighting the importance of accountability, discipline and respect for institutional values, Parnaik said these principles are essential for maintaining harmony and ensuring a conducive learning environment.

Expressing confidence in the institute’s stakeholders, the Governor said the NERIST administration, faculty members, students and other concerned groups would work collectively to restore normalcy and uphold the institution’s longstanding tradition of academic excellence and inclusivity.

He also urged all stakeholders to exercise restraint and contribute towards preserving the dignity and reputation of one of the region’s most respected educational institutions.
