Guv stresses stronger civil-military coordination, veteran welfare

ITANAGAR, SEP 25:

General Officer Commanding (GOC) 101 Area Lt Gen Mohit Waghwa called on Governor Lt Gen KT Parnaik (Retd) at Lok Bhavan, Itanagar, on Friday.

Discussions focused on logistics and administrative support, civil-military coordination and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) mechanisms in the North-East.

The Governor commended the role of 101 Area, headquartered in Shillong, in ensuring combat logistics and operational coordination across the region. He also appreciated its response to natural disasters, including floods and landslides, through rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Highlighting Arunachal Pradesh’s strategic importance, Parnaik stressed the need to further strengthen civil-military liaison and coordination among the Armed Forces, State Government and civil administration for effective disaster response and public welfare initiatives. He also suggested strengthening transit routes, communication networks and administrative infrastructure to support troop movement and logistics in border areas.

The Governor urged the GOC to strengthen welfare measures for Ex-Servicemen and Veer Naris, particularly by improving access to the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) and expanding empanelment of State healthcare institutions. He also stressed better access to resettlement and skill development programmes, educational assistance for children of Ex-Servicemen, pension services and State-supported re-employment opportunities for veterans.

He suggested regular awareness camps and medical outreach programmes in remote areas, along with closer coordination with the Rajya Sainik Board and Zila Sainik Boards, to ensure eligible veterans and their families can access government benefits and entitlements.

Lt Gen Waghwa assured the Governor of the Indian Army’s continued coordination and support for the security, development and well-being of the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
