ITANAGAR : The Department of Women and Child Development (DWCD), Papum Pare, in collaboration with the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) administration, organised a felicitation programme under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative to honour girl student toppers of the 2025-26 academic session at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Friday.

The programme recognised the first-position holders among government schools in the ICR. Significantly, all four awardees were students of Malo Tarin Government Higher Secondary School, reflecting the institution’s strong academic performance and commitment to quality education.

Addressing the gathering, ICR Deputy Commissioner Toko Babu emphasised the importance of providing equal opportunities to girls and ensuring that they are never subjected to discrimination. He noted that the success of women in competitive examinations such as the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) and Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board (APSSB) examinations demonstrates their ability to excel when given the right support and opportunities. He also highlighted the role of a positive and supportive home environment in nurturing success.

Itanagar Additional Superintendent of Police Shruti encouraged the students to remain disciplined, consistent and hardworking, stating that academic excellence lays the foundation for future achievements.

Earlier, Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Papum Pare Deputy Director Jaya Taba outlined the objectives of the BBBP scheme, a flagship initiative of the Government of India aimed at promoting the education, protection and empowerment of girls while addressing the issue of declining child sex ratio.

The students felicitated during the programme were Pompi Kar (Class X) with 89.80 per cent, Kessang Tamin (Class XII Humanities) with 88.20 per cent, Yumlam Leema (Class XII Science) with 79 per cent and Sagata Nath (Class XII Commerce) with 79.60 per cent.

Each awardee received a cash prize of ₹10,000 along with a certificate of appreciation.

The organisers said the programme celebrated the hard work, determination and academic excellence of the achievers while inspiring other girls across the ICR to pursue their aspirations through education, dedication and perseverance. (Source: DIPR)
