NEW DELHI : A joint committee of Parliament examining a key bill on automatic removal of the prime minister, chief ministers and ministers detained in custody for 30 consecutive days on serious criminal charges on Wednesday held consultations with the NHRC and other stakeholders here.

The local study visit focused heavily on evaluating the civil liberties and administrative implications of the proposed laws.

The committee’s meeting with the National Human Rights Commission served as the anchor of the day’s deliberations.

The panel, which has been boycotted by the opposition, also met Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

The Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025, The Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and The Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025 were referred to the joint committee of Parliament for threadbare consultations.

The Indraprastha (GGSIP) University offered academic and constitutional viewpoints on the legislative drafts.

The JPC is expected to compile these diverse inputs from administrative leaders, human rights defenders, academics, and legal activists as it prepares its final report for Parliament.
