Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday congratulated ISRO on the successful launch of GSLV-F17 carrying EOS-05, describing the mission as a significant advance in India’s Earth-observation capabilities.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) made its way into history books yet again with the successful launch of the country’s first-ever imaging satellite in geo-orbit, placing the over 2,300 kg payload into a precise orbit using a GSLV rocket.

“Heartiest congratulations to the brilliant scientists and engineers of ISRO on the successful launch of GSLV-F17 carrying EOS-05,” Khandu said in a post on X.

Khandu said EOS-05 “marks a significant advancement in India’s Earth-observation capabilities”, as it is the country’s first imaging satellite designed to operate from geosynchronous orbit.

He said the satellite would open up “new possibilities for continuous and wide-area observation of the planet”, underlining its potential to strengthen India’s ability to monitor the Earth and gather vital information through space-based observation.

The chief minister also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for the progress of India’s space programme. PTI
