ITANAGAR : In a push to strengthen grassroots football and create opportunities for underprivileged children, Monyul Football Club (MFC), one of Arunachal Pradesh’s premier football outfits, has announced the launch of a long-term football development initiative that will begin in Arunachal Pradesh before expanding to other parts of the country.
The club’s first programme has been launched in collaboration with Jhamtse Gatsal, the internationally acclaimed Tawang-based community that supports children through childcare centres and residential care facilities.
Under the initiative, Monyul FC will provide free football coaching and sports equipment to children from the community beginning this summer. The club said it would deploy its best youth development coaches to ensure that participants receive quality training, professional guidance and meaningful exposure to the sport from an early age.
“We are now all set to offer free coaching and equipment to children’s communities, starting this summer. Monyul will put its best youth development coaches into this programme so that young players get the best possible exposure,” Tsering Khandu, the club’s captain said in a statement.
Founded in 2023, Monyul FC has quickly emerged as one of Arunachal Pradesh’s most promising football clubs. The club competes in the state’s premier football competitions and has gained recognition for its efforts to promote football among youth while building a professional football culture in the region.
Club officials said the latest initiative reflects a broader vision of using football as a tool for social transformation, youth empowerment and community development.
“Our goal is to create opportunities for young talents, promote healthy lifestyles and contribute to the growth of grassroots football in Arunachal Pradesh and India. This is only the beginning of a larger mission,” the statement said.
The club plans to gradually expand the programme to more communities across Arunachal Pradesh and eventually across the country, combining coaching, mentorship and access to sporting resources for children who may otherwise have limited opportunities to participate in organised sports.
The initiative has already received encouragement from football enthusiasts and community leaders, who view it as a positive step towards nurturing future sporting talent while promoting inclusivity and social development through football.
With grassroots development increasingly seen as the foundation of sporting success, Monyul FC’s latest effort aims to ensure that children, irrespective of their background, have an opportunity to dream, compete and excel on the football field.
