Tasing flags off ambulance

PANGIN : In a significant step towards improving emergency healthcare services in Siang district, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Ojing Tasing on Saturday flagged off a community ambulance procured by the Nugong Banggo Kebang.

The ambulance was formally dedicated to public service at Riew Redang Dere in the presence of Pangin Additional Deputy Commissioner Gamtum Padu, who attended the programme as guest of honour.

The event witnessed the participation of a large number of residents from the region.

The initiative was undertaken by the Nugong Banggo Kebang, a non-political and non-profit organisation representing eight villages—Riew, Beging, Rasing, Jorsing, Komsing Kumku, Komsing Karo, Pangi and Sissen.

Speaking on the occasion, the organisers said the primary objective of procuring the ambulance was to ensure timely medical transportation during emergencies, particularly for residents of remote areas. The service will be made available at highly subsidised rates, while members of the Nugong Banggo facing medical emergencies will only be required to bear the cost of fuel.

Nugong Banggo Kebang General Secretary-cum-Finance Secretary Shaini Taki informed that the ambulance was purchased through collective community efforts despite financial constraints. Funds were raised through a lottery draw campaign launched in 2025, reflecting the commitment of the community towards public welfare.

The programme was organised under the leadership of Nugong Banggo Kebang President Tanyong Taloh, Shaini Taki and other executive members.

Addressing the gathering, Tasing and Padu lauded the organisation for its humanitarian initiative and commitment to social welfare. They described the ambulance service as a commendable example of community-driven development and collective responsibility towards public health.

The launch of the ambulance marks a major milestone for the Nugong Banggo region and is expected to significantly improve access to emergency healthcare services for residents of the eight constituent villages. (Report contributed by Maksam Tayeng)
