ITANAGAR, SEP 14:

Two mountaineers from Tirap district, Kampo Matey and Miatliam Wangsa, represented the district in the Mount Shinkun West Expedition, a 6,127-metre high-altitude expedition in Himachal Pradesh, marking a significant achievement for the district.

Kampo Matey, daughter of Ranmey Matey and Nyarian Matey of Laptang village, is the first National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS)-certified mountaineer and adventurer from Tirap. She has completed the Advanced Mountaineering Course (AMC) and Basic Mountaineering Course (BMC), besides undergoing training in white-water rafting.

Miatliam Wangsa, daughter of Tinga Wangsa and Wirian Wangsa of Thinsa village, also represented Tirap in the expedition. She has completed her BMC from NIMAS. Together, Kampo and Miatliam became the first mountaineers from Tirap to represent the district in an expedition of this scale.

The expedition brought together 10 mountaineers from Arunachal Pradesh, with support from the Department of Youth Affairs, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.

The achievement has been hailed as an inspiration for young people in Tirap, highlighting the courage, endurance, discipline and team spirit required to undertake challenging high-altitude expeditions.
