Vice-Chancellor calls for stronger promotion of Hindi at RGU

RONO HILLS : Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) on Tuesday held the 50th (Golden Jubilee) Meeting of the Official Language Implementation Committee, marking a significant milestone in the university’s efforts to promote and implement the Official Language.

The meeting was chaired by RGU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shivraj and attended by Registrar Dr N T Rikam, Dean of Languages Prof. Oken Lego, Dean of Social Sciences Prof. Nani Bath, Head of the Department of Hindi Prof. Joram Yalam Nabam, Joint Registrar Dr Nani Tamang Jose and Hindi Officer-cum-Member Secretary Dr Gumpi Nguso, among others.

In his address, Prof. Shivraj described the committee’s 50th meeting as a historic milestone in the university’s journey towards the effective implementation of the Official Language. He said promoting Hindi was not merely an administrative responsibility but also a commitment to preserving and strengthening India’s rich linguistic heritage.

He appreciated the consistent efforts of the university’s Hindi Cell in promoting the Official Language and congratulated its members for their dedicated service.

To mark the Golden Jubilee meeting, the Hindi Cell organised an Inter-Branch Noting and Drafting Competition, in which the Establishment Branch secured the first position, followed by the Audit Branch and the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat. The winners were presented with mementoes by the Vice-Chancellor.

During the meeting, Hindi Officer Dr Gumpi Nguso presented an overview of the university’s progress in implementing the Official Language and highlighted the achievements of the Hindi Cell and the committee over the years.

She also informed the members that RGU had been entrusted with the responsibility of the Town Official Language Implementation Committee (TOLIC), which comprises more than 100 central government offices. Under the arrangement, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shivraj has been designated as the Chairman of TOLIC, while Dr Gumpi Nguso will serve as its Member Secretary.

Describing the development as a matter of pride and responsibility for the university, she expressed confidence that RGU would continue to strengthen the implementation of the Official Language across the region.
