Woman held with heroin

ITANAGAR : Continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking, the Special Action Team (SAT) of Capital Police arrested a woman allegedly involved in heroin peddling during an operation at Mithun Happa Colony in Chimpu on July 24 last.

Police withheld the identity of the accused as the investigation is at a preliminary stage.

Acting on specific intelligence, the SAT team launched the operation under the supervision of Itanagar Capital Region Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters). The team comprised Sub-Inspector Tejab Tadar, Head Constable Tashi Wangchu, Constables Tasso Taser and Jumter Romin, and Lady Constable Dulley Yashing.

During preliminary interrogation, the accused allegedly disclosed that the contraband had been concealed inside a black polythene bag hidden beneath a stack of old wood within the compound of her rented accommodation.

Acting on the information, police conducted a search in the presence of two independent witnesses after completing all legal formalities under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The search led to the recovery and seizure of 36 plastic vials containing suspected heroin weighing 46 grams (gross weight, including the containers), 11 empty plastic vials and three used syringes.

The search and seizure proceedings were documented through photographs and videography using the e-Sakshya application.

A case has been registered at Chimpu Police Station under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and ascertain possible links to a larger drug trafficking network.

Capital Police appreciated the cooperation of youth leaders, ward members and members of the public, stating that community support has been instrumental in its continuing efforts to curb drug trafficking and make the Itanagar Capital Region a safer and drug-free society.
