ZIRO, OCT 2:
Gandhi Jayanti was observed in Ziro on Friday with Prabhat Pheris, floral tributes, recognition of Safaimitras and a town-wide cleanliness drive, highlighting the values of service, dignity of labour and civic responsibility.
Under the leadership of Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme, district officials, students, local leaders and residents gathered at the Mahatma Gandhi statue near the parking area to pay tribute to the Father of the Nation.
The observance began with Prabhat Pheris by students across the town, organised under the direction of the Deputy Director of School Education (DDSE), Ziro. This was followed by floral tributes by district officers, Heads of Departments, local representatives and members of the public.
As part of the observance, the district administration organised a prize distribution ceremony to honour Safaimitras and other community members for their contribution to public hygiene and community welfare.
A mass cleanliness drive was subsequently conducted across the district under the leadership of the Executive Engineer, Urban Development and Housing (UD&H). Officials and residents participated in cleaning government offices, schools, residential colonies, markets and hospital premises.
DC Oli Perme appreciated the public participation and stressed that a meaningful tribute to Mahatma Gandhi lies in making cleanliness, civic responsibility and mutual respect part of everyday life. (DIPR)
