ITANAGAR, OCT 15: With few vacant teaching posts in government colleges to be filled and the academic session already under way, Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday handed over Orders of Appointment, along with posting places, to 21 successful candidates of the Assistant Professor Examination 2026 conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC). Congratulating the appointees, Khandu said the occasion reflected his Government’s commitment to fair, transparent and merit-based recruitment. Since assuming office, he said, his aim has been to give every government job aspirant a level playing field based purely on merit, an effort he credited to the APPSC and the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board (APSSB). “We hurriedly called for giving away the appointment letters along with posting places to all successful Assistant Professors because we cannot delay the process as we are already into middle of the academic session,” he said, adding that immediate joining at the assigned government colleges is of utmost importance. Turning to the larger purpose of the profession, the Chief Minister said human resources, not infrastructure, are the real yardstick of development, and that the task of building them rests with the State’s teachers, who shape its manpower and the future citizens of the State and the country. He asked the new Assistant Professors to shoulder that responsibility as dedicatedly as they had prepared for the examination. “You on your own chose this profession, prepared for it and appeared for the examination. You worked hard to achieve success. Now it’s your turn to do justice to what you have chosen,” Khandu told them. The recruitment will fill vacant teaching posts in government colleges across the State under the Department of Education, while opening meaningful employment for the State’s educated youth. The APPSC advertised the posts on January 22, 2026, held viva voce for the 21 posts on August 18 and 19, and declared the results on August 19. Of the 263 applications received across five subjects, 66 candidates were called for interview and 21 were selected, roughly one in every 12 or 13 applicants. Mathematics and Chemistry each yielded six appointees, followed by Physics with five. Anthropology and Sociology have two each; Sociology drew the largest field, with 86 applications for its two posts, while Anthropology received 32. Chemistry drew 50 applications, Physics 48 and Mathematics 47. Present on the occasion were Advisor (Education) Mutchu Mithi, Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta, and the Secretaries of Education and General Administration and parents and relatives of the new appointees.    

ITANAGAR, OCT 15: Governor Lt Gen KT Parnaik (Retd) presented the ‘Land of Rising Sun Plaque for Excellence’ to Pawan Kumar Sain, Commissioner to the Governor, at Lok Bhavan on Thursday in recognition of his administrative leadership, service and commitment to excellence. The Governor commended Sain for his administrative acumen, sound judgement, organisational abilities and result-oriented approach, which contributed to the efficient management of the Governor’s Secretariat and the smooth functioning of its various wings. He also appreciated Sain’s efforts to maintain administrative discipline, strengthen coordination and facilitate timely decision-making. As Sain relinquishes charge as Commissioner to the Governor, the recognition acknowledges his contributions and dedicated service to the institution. The Governor wished him success in his future assignments and expressed confidence that he would continue to serve with professionalism and commitment. Secretary to the Governor Mamata Riba Naksang and officers of the Governor’s Secretariat attended the farewell function.    

ITANAGAR, OCT 15: More than 2,000 kilograms of waste was removed from the Yagamso River at IG Park, Itanagar, during a mass clean-up drive organised on Thursday, with over 50 youths from Dumporijo Constituency participating in a major show of youth-led environmental action. The drive was organised by the Youth Mission for Clean River (YMCR) and the Abralow Memorial Multipurpose Society (AMMS) with support from the Itanagar Smart City Development Corporation Ltd. (ISCDCL). The Dumporijo contingent joined under the banner of Dumporijo Gusar Giteripe Baririjo Maro Students’ Union (DGGBMSU), led by its President Alexander Tengam Yoka. Members of Dream for United Arunachal also participated. The initiative was graced by former State Information Commissioner Dr. Gumjum Haider. Following the drive, YMCR felicitated the collaborating organisations in recognition of their participation and support. Addressing the participants, DGGBMSU President Alexander Tengam Yoka thanked YMCR for the invitation and assured full cooperation and participation of the union in future initiatives of YMCR in Dumporijo. Dr. Haider lauded the DGGBMSU members for travelling from Dumporijo to Itanagar for the cause and urged them to sustain the spirit of volunteerism and contribute to nation-building. YMC­R-AP Vice Chairman Keyom Doni expressed gratitude to all volunteers and said such collaborative efforts would be continued to protect the capital’s rivers. He said the objective of the drive went beyond cleaning and aimed at sensitising the youth of Dumporijo towards river conservation, environmental protection and collective responsibility. Discussions were also held on extending similar clean-up drives to the Subansiri River and other rivers in Dumporijo Constituency in the near future.  

ITANAGAR, OCT 15: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Minority Morcha and party leaders in Arunachal Pradesh celebrated the 95th birth anniversary of former President and Bharat Ratna Dr APJ Abdul Kalam at the state BJP headquarters in Vivek Vihar here on Thursday. The programme featured floral tributes to Kalam, fondly remembered as the “Missile Man of India” and the “People’s President”, with speakers recalling his contributions to science, education, national development and youth empowerment. Dumporijo MLA and Advisor to the Minister for Minority Affairs Rode Bui, along with state BJP Minority Morcha president Taring Rai and other party leaders, addressed the gathering. They urged participants to follow Kalam’s ideals of knowledge, wisdom, commitment, honesty and sincerity in public service. Dera Natung Government College Assistant Professor Dr Taro Singdik attended the programme as the resource person. He spoke about Kalam’s life, scientific achievements and enduring legacy, highlighting his dedication to education, scientific innovation and inspiring young people. Bui, while paying tribute to the former President, said Kalam’s visionary work in science and technology had made significant contributions to India’s space and defence programmes. He also recalled Kalam’s popularity across party lines and his commitment to public service. Bui urged the gathering to draw inspiration from Kalam’s life and work and serve society with honesty, dedication and commitment. BJP National Minority Morcha Social Media In-charge Khairul Ahmed also addressed party leaders, encouraging them to learn from Kalam’s values and work for the welfare of the general public. Reports of similar programmes marking Kalam’s birth anniversary were received from BJP district and mandal units across Arunachal Pradesh.    

RAGA, OCT 15: Rajya Sabha MP Tai Tagak visited Kamle district on a two-day tour under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan and interacted with heads of departments (HoDs) through a “Chai Pe Samvad” programme. Kamle Deputy Commissioner JT Obi welcomed the MP and briefed him on the district’s overall profile. District Planning Officer Mantu Gyadi gave a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the district’s achievements and challenges. During the interaction, Tagak reviewed the status of the education, health and administrative sectors. He stressed the need for planned and sustained water conservation, particularly the protection of springs, which are vital sources of water for communities in the Himalayan region. Expressing concern over the consequences of mismanaged water resources in hilly areas, particularly in Arunachal Pradesh, he called on the concerned departments to prioritise spring water conservation to help prevent flooding and minimise loss of life and property. Tagak said the objective of his visit was to interact with the public and government departments, bridge the gap between the state and Central governments, and facilitate overall development and nation-building. He was accompanied by Teche Necha, vice-chairman of the Arunachal Bamboo Resource Development.  

PASIGHAT, OCT 15: Jiden Gao, a third-semester student of the Department of Commerce, won the Institutional-Level Youth Debate Competition 2026 organised by the Siang Trust in collaboration with Arunachal Pradesh University (APU) at the university’s Conference Hall here on Thursday. Mittu Bhagan and Ayang Lego secured the second and third positions, respectively. Altogether, 24 students from various university departments participated in the debate on the theme, “The Youth of Today: More Rights, More Choice, More Voice, but Less Responsibility.” Under the competition format, each participant was allotted four minutes for the opening presentation, two minutes for rebuttal and counterpoints, and one minute for closing remarks. The three-member judging panel comprised APU Dean of Academic Affairs Prof. (Dr.) Prakash Chandra Jena, Department of English Head Dr. Razzeko Delley and Department of Commerce Head Dr. Rajen Miwu. The judges appreciated the standard of the debate and commended the participants for their enthusiasm, seriousness and effective presentation. APU Registrar Narmi Darang paid tribute to late Prof. Tamo Mibang, former Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University and a pioneer of indigenous studies in Arunachal Pradesh. Highlighting Mibang’s contributions to academics, sports and social activism, Darang encouraged students to actively participate in university programmes. Siang Trust Coordinator Asokan KV said the youth debate was a new initiative of the Trust and would become a regular feature of its annual calendar. He added that students from 14 institutions were expected to participate in the next phase, with each institution nominating one representative for an inter-institutional debate to be held shortly. Siang Trust President Captain Mohonto Panging Pao underscored the role of debates in developing communication skills, vocabulary, confidence and clarity of expression. He commended the participants and observed that focused preparation would help them improve further.
