Five-member Adi band Kongkura released its latest music video ‘Toma Dulamang’ here on Wednesday, presenting a contemporary rendition of the Adi Donyi-Polo hymn of the same name written by Tapang Jamoh nearly four decades ago.

The song carries a strong message of collective resolve, conveying that the Adi people will not remain idle when the call of Solung is heard. By blending traditional themes and melodies with contemporary rock-fusion music, the band aims to connect younger audiences with the Adi language, culture and ancestral heritage.

The music video was formally launched by Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Ojing Tasing at Hotel Airport View near Pasighat Airport in the presence of Ma Ke chairperson Joya Tasung Moyong, Adi Agom Kebang president Bodong Yirang, general secretary Tajing Taki and other dignitaries.

The band’s name, Kongkura, pays homage to the echoes of ancestors, a theme reflected in its musical approach. The group seeks to promote Adi language and culture among younger generations by developing an Adi rock-fusion genre rooted in traditional songs and melodies.

Joya Tasung Moyong highlighted the importance of creative initiatives in preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh. She also spoke about the work of her organisation Ma Ke in supporting people affected by drug abuse, survivors of abuse, women in need and affected families. She said music could help preserve a culture of unity and love while offering hope and guidance to those in need.

Describing the project as a significant step towards cultural preservation amid modernisation, Ojing Tasing praised the band for presenting ancestral traditions through a musical form that appeals to younger generations. He said such initiatives allow young people to engage with contemporary music while remaining connected to their roots and cultural legacy.
