TAWANG, AUG 29:
The Sports Department Tawang celebrated National Sports Day 2026 with a friendly football match between MLA XI and DC XI and an archery competition at the Gyalwa Tsangyang Gyatso High Altitude Sports Stadium here on Saturday.
Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering attended the event as chief guest along with Tawang Deputy Commissioner Namgyal Angmo IAS, officials, sportspersons and sports enthusiasts.
The MLA formally inaugurated the archery competition, which saw enthusiastic participation from archers across different age groups and categories. He interacted with the participants and encouraged them to pursue sports with dedication and discipline.
The football match was the highlight of the celebration, with both Namgey Tsering and Namgyal Angmo present on the field to encourage their respective teams. The MLA also played for MLA XI in the striking position. MLA XI eventually defeated DC XI 5-2.
The archery competition produced the following results:
Sub-Junior Boys: Tenzin Dondoup (260 points), first; Tashi Dorjee (227), second; and Tenzin Rangjung (147), third.
Sub-Junior Girls: Dechin Drema (219), first; and Tenzin Dhasal (126), second.
Senior Boys: Thutan Tsewang (96), first; and Pem Tsering (42), second.
Senior Girls: Yangchin Dema (96), first; Sonam Deki (56), second; Tenzin Chotton (34), third; Tenzin Lhamu (25), fourth; Karmo Chotton (21), fifth; and Tashi Eton (14), sixth.
Senior Recurve: Lobsang (316/360), first; and Thutan Dema (302/360), second.
The celebration provided a platform for local sporting talent while promoting fitness, teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship. The participation of players and archers underscored the importance of encouraging greater involvement in sports and nurturing young talent in Tawang district. (DIPR)
