GUMTO, OCT 2: A Special Gram Sabha was conducted across all four Gram Panchayats under XIII-Gumto Panchayat on Friday to strengthen community participation and grassroots governance. Gumto Circle Officer Rebecca Borang oversaw the proceedings. Representatives from the Medical, Power, Public Health Engineering (PHE), Veterinary, Food and Civil Supplies, Education, Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ArSRLM), Horticulture, Agriculture and Women and Child Development (WCD) departments participated in the Gram Sabha. The participating departments interacted with community members on matters related to local development and public welfare and extended their cooperation for the successful conduct of the programme. The participation of elected representatives, government officials and community members further reinforced public engagement and grassroots governance across the panchayat.

DEOMALI, OCT 2: The International Day of Non-Violence was observed at Deomali on Friday with the participation of the Subdivisional Administration, Heads of Departments, students and the public. The programme was organised to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and promote the values of non-violence, peace, cleanliness and social harmony. The programme began with floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, followed by a rendition of Ram Dhun by students of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Deomali. Deomali Additional Deputy Commissioner administered the Non-Violence Pledge, while the Assistant Commissioner administered the Swachhata Pledge. Speaking on the occasion, Brahma Kumari Bidya Behen underlined the importance of inner peace as the foundation for building a peaceful society. Deomali Swachhata Ambassador and National Teachers’ Awardee 2024 Jyoti Panka stressed the importance of cleanliness in building a healthy, disciplined and developed nation. She emphasised that a cleaner society begins with individual responsibility and inner transformation. A Sarva Dharma Prarthana Sabha was also organised, reflecting the secular and inclusive spirit of the observance. People from different faiths came together to pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and reaffirm their commitment to non-violence, peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and communal harmony. Prizes and certificates were presented to winners of various literary events organised as part of the Non-Violence Week. The observance witnessed active participation from students and the public and highlighted the relevance of Gandhian values of peace, compassion, respect, self-discipline and harmonious coexistence. ITANAGAR, OCT 2: Yashoda Hospitals will host an evening of medical knowledge-sharing and professional engagement in Itanagar on October 3, bringing together senior specialists from cardiothoracic surgery, radiation oncology, critical care, medical oncology, surgical gastroenterology and nephrology. SINGCHUNG, OCT 2: Thrizino-Buragaon MLA Tenzin Nyima Glow, West Kameng Deputy Commissioner Dr Dilip Kumar and Singchung ADC Murnya Kakki conducted a joint inspection of key ongoing developmental works in Singchung Sub-Division on Friday. The team inspected the PWD Circuit House at Singchung, where the MLA emphasised the need for quality construction and timely completion. The DC directed the concerned officers to submit regular progress reports along with photographs. At Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Singchung, the team reviewed infrastructure works being executed under the Local Area Development Fund (LADF). The MLA and Deputy Commissioner also interacted with students and extended greetings on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The team also inspected the ongoing construction of Type-II staff quarters and a girls’ hostel at Middle School Kaspi. The DC directed the concerned officials to ensure early completion, adequate water supply and sanitation, and compliance with prescribed norms for effective utilisation of the facilities. The inspection aimed to ensure quality, timely execution and proper utilisation of developmental infrastructure in the sub-division. ZPMs, Singchung Circle Officer, PWD Assistant Engineer, heads of educational institutions, Gram Panchayat Chairpersons (GPCs) and Gaon Buras (GBs) accompanied the inspection team.  

TEZU, OCT 2: A Statewide Mega Health Mela was organised at Tezu on Friday as part of the Government’s health outreach initiative, providing free specialist consultation, diagnostic, screening and preventive healthcare services to residents of Tezu Township and adjoining areas. The health mela was held from 9 am to 4 pm and was inaugurated by Tezu ZPM Baplalum Chiba as Chief Guest in the presence of Lohit Deputy Commissioner K.N. Damo as Guest of Honour. Senior public representatives, PRI members, dignitaries and Health Department officials attended the programme. Specialist services were offered in Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, ENT, Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Dental, Psychiatry, AYUSH and Homoeopathy, besides physiotherapy and other clinical services. Screening for non-communicable diseases, including hypertension and diabetes, was conducted along with laboratory investigations, Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) registration and services related to Chief Minister’s Aarogya Arunachal Yojana (CMAAY) and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). Services under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infection services, and National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) were also provided. Antenatal and child healthcare, eye and dental screening, mental health and substance-abuse counselling, health awareness activities and distribution of prescribed medicines were among the other services offered. The health mela recorded a total footfall of 412 patients. Of these, 181 consulted the Medicine Specialist, 110 availed ENT services, 97 underwent non-communicable disease screening, 84 consulted the Surgeon, 73 each availed Gynaecology and Child Specialist services, and 69 received Orthopaedic consultation. The mela provided residents access to multiple specialist and preventive healthcare services under one roof while promoting awareness about early diagnosis, healthy practices and government health programmes.  

ITANAGAR, OCT 2: Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday congratulated Assam-born boxer Lovlina Borgohain for scripting history by winning the women’s 75kg gold at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan, saying her achievement had once again brought pride to the Northeast and the entire country. Borgohain clinched the gold on her birthday, adding a special touch to an already memorable achievement and becoming only the second Indian woman boxer to win an Asian Games gold after legendary M C Mary Kom. “Historic gold for Lovlina Borgohain! A new chapter in Indian boxing,” Khandu said in a post on X, describing the victory as a moment of great pride for the country. Khandu said it was particularly remarkable that Borgohain achieved the feat on her birthday. Praising the boxer’s journey from Assam and the Northeast to the top of Asian boxing, Khandu said Lovlina has once again made the entire nation proud. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein also congratulated Borgohain on her historic feat, saying her performance had brought honour to the country and the region. “What a way to celebrate your birthday by bringing home the highest honour for the nation. Your grit, determination, and fighting spirit have made the country proud,” he said in a social media post. Mein described the victory as “a golden birthday, and a golden moment for the Northeast and India”. Borgohain defeated China’s Bao Ziyi by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the women’s 75kg final at Nishio. ZIRO, OCT 2: The Hapoli Forest Division, in collaboration with the Apatani Student Union (ASU), organised a series of inter-school and inter-collegiate literary and creative competitions as part of preparations for the first edition of the Ziro Bird & Butterfly Festival 2026 and the 72nd Wildlife Week 2026. Held at Pange in Tale Wildlife Sanctuary under the theme “Ane Ziro”, the competitions brought together 231 students from 12 schools and two colleges across Lower Subansiri district. The competitions provided students an opportunity to express their creativity and perspectives on biodiversity, habitat protection and nature conservation. In the Essay Writing Competition, 104 students participated. Yangbiu Chipi of Class X from Love Dale Residential School, Hapoli, secured the first prize with 64 per cent, followed by Toko Minia of Class X, Nime Ashram School, Old Ziro, with 62.5 per cent. Buru Hannah of Love Dale Residential School secured the third prize with 60 per cent. The Poetry Writing and Elocution Competition saw 52 participants. Bijoyta Sharma of B.Ed., Mudo Tamo Memorial College, Hapoli, won the first prize with 72.3 per cent, while Bomri Mary Gamlin of III Semester Education, St Claret College, Ziro, secured the second prize with 70 per cent. Rajiya Khatun of Class XII Humanities, Dani Kunya Government Higher Secondary School, Ziro, won the third prize. In the Drawing Competition, which received 75 entries, Koj Monyo of Class IX, ABYSS Institute of Science, Hapoli, secured the first prize, followed by Toko Nuin of Class X, VKV School, Ziro, and Bamin Tilling Gra of Class XI Humanities, Dani Kunya Government Higher Secondary School, Ziro. The Hapoli Forest Division appreciated the participation of students, teachers, educational institutions and community stakeholders. It also acknowledged the cooperation of the Apatani Student Union, including President Mum Hangu, Secretary Takhe Pugang and Education Secretary Koj Risang. The initiative underscored the importance of engaging young people in environmental awareness and encouraging them to become responsible custodians of the natural heritage of Tale Wildlife Sanctuary.
